Allowing Bones to Do Their Job

I wanted to share a couple of takeaways from our last Thursday cohort session that felt really important to me. We were exploring bones and discussing how our bones are always changing. They are always being remodeled and rebuilt. This is a process done to create support in directions where our bodies need it most, where the most weight and pressure are being placed. I think it is such a beautiful metaphor, as our bodies continually assess and shift to hold and support us.
Something I recognize in my own self is that I often use my muscles to hold me more than I need them to. But what if I allowed my bones to do their job and just hold me? It’s a different sensation, to shift to feeling your weight release down into your bones and into your feet, letting that structure - our scaffolding - hold us.
I am really moved by the sessions that I have been facilitating, both in online Your Body Is Yours To Know cohorts and in-person healing sessions. We’ve been navigating such deep, interesting body relationships. It is such an honor to get to explore that with all of these humxns.
Connecting Into Our Bones
If you are in a space where you can do so, I invite you to pause.
Stand, sit or lay down depending on what is most available to your body in this moment.
Notice, is your weight releasing down into your bone structure, or are you lifting with your muscles?
Come to this without judgment. You are not wrong if you are holding – it is where you are.
Then, with curiosity, can you relax your muscles and let your weight be carried into your bones.
What do you notice? Does it feel different?
