Prioritizing "Thinking" Over "Feeling"

I’ve been reflecting on how we as a culture prioritize thinking over feeling. By “feeling,” I’m not only referring to our emotional experience but also our sensed experience - the ways our bodies communicate about our surroundings and experiences. This topic has come up several times in my 1:1 sessions and online cohorts over the last few weeks. Specifically, around trying to figure out why our body is communicating in a certain way. It can feel like a lot of pressure to be searching for the why with our thoughts. What if we offer our thinking brains space to rest and ask the part that is communicating what they have to say?
Growing up we may have had our feelings questioned, “But why?” and not had that feeling honored if we couldn’t come up with a reason. This may have taught us that our feelings aren’t valid or important in their own right. What if we offered our body communications - our feelings and our sensing - the opportunity to be true, to be right, even if we don’t know or have the words for the why? How would that shift our relationship with our feeling body?
